The Harlem Renaissance was one of the most dynamic movements in American literature, spawning volumes of poetry, short stories, and novels.  Its legacy is a resurgence of the movement in late 20th century.  Writers in the earlier half of the 20th century turned their attention to the unique experiences of African-Americans and the mechanisms of survival in a context of poverty and debilitating racism.
