Unit 2: The Colonies, the Revolution, and the New Nations:
The Colonies
(Return to the English 2327 Table of Contents)
(Return to the English 2327 Syllabus)
.

This unit examines selected writings of Colonial New England authors whose works begin the chronicle of American literature.  Set against the harsh realities of settlement and the difficulties of establishing sustainable communities, the histories and the journals from the period of the early 1600's offer glimpses of the values and assumptions that drove the Europeans to colonize the North American wilderness.
