Frederick Douglass became
one of the most important of the northern Abolitionists, speaking and writing
unceasingly on behalf of the anti-slavery movement, drawing eloquently
and forcefully upon his own experiences as an escaped slave. His
history would become one of the most influential of more than 6,000 slave
narratives which would spur the emancipation of the Southern slaves.
