What is English 2311?
English 2311 is a course in technical writing. The course focuses on the style and written patterns used to communicate in business and industry. Some examples of technical compositions are memos, reports, proposals, manuals, resumes, and business letters.

Are there any prerequisites?
Yes. Students should have completed at least English 1301 (the first semester of college-level composition) and usually English 1302. Exceptions are made for students of colleges and universities whose degree programs require only one semester of college composition. Students in the Dallas County Community College District campuses should have completed both English 1301 and English 1302.

How much work is involved?
You will write seven major compositions and complete several shorter exercises, thirteen assignments in all.

How many weeks do I have to finish?
You have up to 15 weeks in the regular term, 7 weeks in a Flex Course, four weeks in the summer term, and three weeks in the mini-semesters (Winter and May terms) to complete the work for the course. See the Course Syllabus on the Home page for posted due dates..

Can I finish earlier than the seven-week term?
Yes. Many do. 

When will I get my grade?
Your grade will be posted eConnect, the Dallas County Community College District's data bank for students and staff.  Go to http://www.dcccd.edu and click on eConnect.

Does this course credit transfer?
Yes. This course fulfills most university requirements for a three-hour course in technical writing.

How do I submit assignments?
All assignments may be e-mailed as attachments in Microsoft Word.   I will give you instructions for naming, labeling, saving, and sending all your work

How will I get my assignments back?
Each assignment will be returned as an attachment to your email correspondence.  Note that all exercises and communication will be made only to the email account from which the submission was sent.

How do I register for English 2311 Online?
You may enroll online.  Additionally, the English Department Secretary will be happy to assist you in registering for this course. Please call (972) 740-3125 for assistance.

How much does it cost?
Student residents of Dallas County will pay tuition of  about $130. For students residing outside Dallas County, Texas, the tuition is around $225.  Use our Tuition Schedule to find class cost, if you live outside of Dallas County. (Note: these costs are subject to change without notice here.) 

Are there any required textbooks?
Yes. The name of the textbook is Technically Write! (6th edition) by Ron Blicq and Lisa Moretto. The book is published by Prentice Hall. All assignments and primary instructional materials are found in the textbook. The book is available at the Mountain View College Bookstore at 4849 West Illinois Avenue, Dallas, TX 75211.
