What is English 1301?
English 1301 is the first of several courses in the Writing
Program of Navarro College. It is a fully accredited course which fulfills
the requirements of most first-semester composition courses taught in
colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Are there any prerequisites for the course?
Yes. You must have passed the state-mandated skills assessment instrument or
alternative test with scores at or higher than the minimum required by the
institution. .
Is there much difference between taking the course in-class and
taking it online?
While the content covered in the course and the assignments are the
same, many people find a great deal of difference between the two options.

What is taught in English 1302?
The focus of English 1301 is expository writing. More specifically,
you will compose paragraphs and short essays that reflect informational and
explanatory writing. For the most part, essays you will write in English 1301
will address topics of personal interest and expertise.

What will I write about?
Instructions for most of the essays leave that up to you. .
How many papers will I have to write?
You will write a number of essays, each reflecting a different pattern of
writing--description, process analysis, comparison-contrast, cause-effect, to
name a few. .
How will I be graded?
You will receive a numerical grade on each exercise. Essays are worth
50% of your grade. Paragraphs and other exercises are worth 25%. The final exam
is worth 25%.

How long do I have to finish the work for the course?
If you are enrolled for the Mini-mester, you have 3 weeks to complete your
work. If you are enrolled in a short course during a regular term, you
will have 8 weeks to complete your assignments. If you are enrolled in the summer terms, you have 12 weeks from the day you
enroll to complete all the assigned work. If you have enrolled in a
regular fall or spring semester, you have 15 weeks to complete all of your
assigned work. .
Can I finish the work before the end of the term?
Yes. You may finish the work at your own pace.

Is there a textbook for the course?
Yes. The names of the textbooks are The Longman Writer: Rhetoric, Reader,
Handbook, and the Little Brown Handbook.. You can purchase
these books directly from the bookstore at Navarro College (Ellis County Branch
in Waxahachie or the Corsicana campus bookstore).
