Exercise 10:  Composing the "NGO" Brochure

Instructions
In cooperation with an appropriate representative of an area non-governmental organization (NGO), you will development for this exercise a brochure supporting a specific function, program, activity, or purpose of the organization.  With the guidance of the organization's staff person, you are to create the layout and design for the document, compose or distribute the text in the document, and incorporate at least one graphic that you create or which the organization provides for you.

For this exercise you will need both access to and skill in using a graphics program.  There are many available.  The document can be created in such programs as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, and Adobe In Design (formerly Adobe Pagemaker), to name only a few.  Graphic design programs include ULead Image, Paintshop Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, and others.  If you do not know how to use a document layout program or a graphics program, contact your instructor for assistance or suggestions.

Elements of the Brochure
Your document should include the following elements:

1) At least one section of text
2) At least one illustration, photo, clip art, or other image
3) A clearly discernible design template reflecting the standards introduced in your text
4) Organizational contact information

What You Submit
You must submit both a final copy of the document and a copy of an acceptance letter from the organization confirming its acceptability and planned use of the document.

Note: You are not responsible for either printing or distributing bulk copies of the brochure for the organization.

Criteria for Grading
Your exercise will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

1) Completion of the final copy of the brochure
2) Endorsement and approval of the brochure by a representative of the organization
3) Timely completion of the exercise
